Who is Brant Moles?

Brant Moles started skiing, riding snowmobiles, and riding dirt bikes when he was four. It was a big year. Brant grew up in Wisconsin, and when he was eight, he started ski racing at Wilmot Mountain. His dad was a ski instructor at The Playboy Club Hill, so he expected Brant to learn to ski in a “civilized” manner.

Brant continued riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles on and off as he grew up. As a teenager, he was a successful ski racer, and was ranked fourth in the nation when he left Wisconsin for more serious training at the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont. He had Olympic dreams, and nearly made the U.S. Ski Team. When high school was over, though, he traded the East Coast greenery for the high desert of Reno and the University of Nevada.

After living in Reno and suffering a broken femur, Brant moved to Utah where his freeskiing career would take off. Says Brant, “I have always been a freeskier. I love to jump and ski powder, and I always have. While I was racing in college, I started to ski the mountain more and more. Racing wasn’t working out but skiing the whole mountain was great.”

While in Utah, Brant began meeting photographers and filmers, and skiers who loved to shred powder for the camera. He entered his first big mountain competition (then known as “extreme skiing”) in 1995, and has competed at least once a year almost every year since. Brant has been sidelined by several major injuries throughout the years—some from skiing, some from bowling—but he has always bounced back stronger and more inspired to help the sport of skiing progress.

Also, Brant enjoys sushi, skateboarding, mountain biking, and relaxing in the Wasatch.
